お店の前のガジュマルの木｜Gajumaru tree in front of the Bar

お店の前に大きなガジュマルの木があります。 暖かい地方、沖縄などによく生えている木で、根っこの様な土から出た部分が複雑に絡み合っている事から別名「絞め殺しの木」とも言われています。 私がこのガジュマルに興味を持ったのは、もう12年くらい前の事でした。 暑い夏の事、五反田周辺の山手通りを、大崎駅方面に歩いていると、広い歩道の真ん中に巨大な木がありました。その大きさ、記憶を辿ると、約3メートルそして、幅も木の高さと同じくらい広がっていた様に思います。

It was about 12 years ago I was interested in this tree. During the hot summer, walking along Yamate-dori near Gotanda towards Osaki Station, the size of the wide sidewalk, about 3 meters in memory, I think it was as wide as the height of a tree.

こんな灼熱のアスファルトの上に、そんな大きな木があった事に驚いた私が、次の瞬間さらに驚いたのは、その木がうわっていたのが、花壇などでは無く、ただのバケツだったと言う事です。 大して栄養も無いだろに、また誰かが世話をしている様な感じでも無く、長い事そこに放置されている様に見えるその木は、そんな事何にも気にしていない様子で、灼熱の太陽を全身に受け、そのエネルギーを命に変えて成長している様に見えました。 これはなんと言う名前の木なのだろう。なんて強い生命力なのだろう、私はその木とその生命力にとても興味を持つようになり、その通りを通る度に、そのガジュマルを見て歩きました。 その頃、スマートフォンがあったら写真が撮れたのに、、、と今は悲しく思います。

しばらくして、私は品川シーサイドにあるイオンに行った時に、小さな20センチ程のガジュマルに出会い、一人暮らしの部屋に置く事にしました。 日差しをしっかり当たる様にして、ガジュマルは少しずつ大きくなって行きます。 約8年前、私は突然今のお店、Cafe&Bar BlueReefを開業する事になりました。その時ガジュマルは膝より少し上位の大きさに成長していました。 お店の前は日当たりが良く、ガジュマルは見る見る大きくなって行きました。まるでお店の守り神（御神木）の様に思えて来たガジュマル。 夏が来るたびにグッと伸びます。冬はあまり伸びません。何かの具合で、葉が殆どが落ちてしまった事もあったり、少し歩道に出過ぎてしまい、枝を切らなきゃいけなかったりもしました。何度か鉢を変えましたが、もう大きすぎて、これ以上の鉢に植え替えるのは難しくなりました。 そんなガジュマルは、今は3メートル程になり、成長はゆっくりになった様に思います。 先日、五反田に行った時、歩道も改修され、ガジュマルはもう無くなってしまいました。 今はお店の看板も少し隠してしまう程のガジュマルですが、これからもずっとお店を守ってくれます様に。。

At that time the Gajumaru tree was growing slightly higher than the knee. The front of the bar was sunny and the Gajumaru trees were getting bigger and bigger. A Gajumaru tree that seems to be like a guardian deity (a sacred tree) for my bar. It grows every time summer comes. In Winter does not grow much. For some reason, most of the leaves have fallen off, or they have gone a bit too far on the sidewalk and had to cut off the branches. I changed the pot several times, but it was too big and it was difficult to replant it any more. Such a Gajumaru tree is about 3 meters now, and I think it grew slowly. The other day, when I went to Gotanda, the sidewalk was renovated and the Gajumaru tree was gone. It's a Gakumaru tree that hides the sign of the bar a little bit now, but I hope that it will keep and guard the bar forever...
